At West Rainton Primary School, we thank all of our loyal staff members for generously giving up their time to dedicate to the extra-curricular provision in our school. We are passionate about the development of well-rounded children through providing a broad range of quality experiences. Our close tracking and monitoring of clubs shows over 80% of our pupils access at least one club per term, most attending more than one. It is a real asset of ours, and it has a huge impact on overall personal development.
After School Clubs
We were delighted in April 2021 to bring back some of our after-school clubs, and now in the new academic year 2022-23, we have more clubs running than ever! SAFC sports, early years club, netball, football training, Y6 booster, steel drumming, yoga, Relax Kids, dance and construction are just a snapshot of what we offer, as well as our very popular homework club. It is fantastic to see our pupils accessing and enjoying the wider life of school again.
Even during the trials and tribulations of the pandemic, our school provided after school clubs for pupils in their own bubbles. We were able to run Y2 booster, Y6 booster, Y3 cookery, Y4 craft, Y5/6 drama club for the ‘Shakespeare for Schools’ project, and a number of year groups accessed SAFC sports coaching on a Tuesday.
* Even in Autumn 2022, we are continuing to keep up to date with national restrictions and risk assessment guidance to ensure that our children get the best offer we can give, whilst also keeping everyone safe.
After School Clubs run from 3pm to 4pm each day, Monday to Friday. Gymnastics, our only club paid for by parents, runs from 3pm to 3:45pm, then 3:45pm until 4:30pm, to ensure that as many pupils as possible can access this excellent example of our sporting provision. As an AfPE school, we pride ourselves on a high standard of PE provision, both in and out of school hours. Many of our pupils have gone on to receive scholarship support to further their sporting endeavours outside of school based on evidence seen in our clubs.
Our current after school club provision includes:
- SAFC sports’ club with Dominic, our dedicated sports coach from the Foundation of Light
