At West Rainton Primary School, we work closely with a number of agencies to ensure that our children are well supported, both educationally and pastorally.
On some occasions, we may arrange counselling sessions for pupils who need support with personal worries or concerns, or when staff feel that pupils may have worries that they would prefer to talk through with someone else. This may also be at the request of a parent. One of our key workers is our Parent Support Advisor, who works closely with parents and children, to support them in many aspects of life. If you would like to make an appointment with our PSA, Mrs Lynn Moore, please contact Mrs McGowan in the school office.
Since September 2014, it is a legal requirement that all pupils with a medical condition or have medication administered in school, have an annually reviewed Individual Health Care Plan in school.
This can include medical needs or conditions such as:
When a child has a medical condition, parents are asked to contact school to arrange a meeting with designated member of the Senior Leadership Team, with key responsibility for this.
Mrs Susan Firth is our designated leader for children with pastoral, medical or social needs.
Formulating a plan ensures that the child receives the care and attention that they need. Parents are asked to ensure that all medication and inhalers are present and in date. We also remind parents that medication can only be administered to pupils if it has been prescribed to them with a pharmacy sticker on; this includes paracetamol and ibruprofen. If your child is unwell and needs medication administered in school, this must be given to Mrs McGowan at the school office and the consent form must be signed please.
An emergency asthma kit is also available in school, since October 2014. If your child has an inhaler, we can arrange to put your child on the emergency list, with your permission. Please see Mrs Susan Firth to do so.
Pupils who require additional support with their toileting needs also have an Intimate Care Plan, which details the procedures that you would like us to follow in assisting your child, whether on a short term, or long term basis.
If you would like to discuss this with us, or would like some support, please come and see us at school.
