West Rainton Primary School is officially an inclusive ‘Centre of Excellence’ school!

8th February 2021 By susanfirth

Our wonderful school has held the ‘Inclusion Quality Mark’ for three years now. At the end of last year, we were reassessed, and were highly commended with the ‘Centre of Excellence’ award. To say that we are thrilled, is an understatement. The provision that we offer to each and every one of our children and families, has been praised and held in high regard within inclusion, and we are proud of each and every member of our school family. The highly praised provision that we have on offer during the testing times in 2020 and 2021 for remote learning during COVID, has been the icing on the cake for us.

The deal on offer at WRPS is a fantastic one! #onlyatwestrainton

KS2 pupils become Dementia Friends!

3rd March 2020 By susanfirth

The pupils in KS2 are now officially ‘Dementia Friends’ after their wonderful training with Mrs Charlton at the end of February. They spoke maturely about how they can help people who are living with dementia. Some of the pupils’ comments include:

‘We shouldn’t point or laugh at someone who has dementia’

‘Help people by being kind and polite’

‘Think of ways to help people, such as labelling their clothes or helping them home’

Our WRPS family are, as always, the kindest one there is.

WRPS help prepare for the spring bloom

14th January 2020 By susanfirth

Two classes went along to the village green to plant flowers which will be ready to make the village colourful in the Spring. We were delighted to be asked to help, and it will be a proud moment for us, when our hard work begins to ‘pop’ through the soil! Recently, we had a visit from Ted, the mascot, to present our school with a certificate!

Ambulance mini medics play Santa!

14th January 2020 By susanfirth

Mrs Firth was very proud to have the pleasure of taking two of our fabulous Year 6 pupils, who are ‘Ambulance Mini Medics’ to visit University Hospital North Durham in December, to deliver Christmas presents with representatives from Tesco in Durham. They donated all of the gifts, and we were thrilled to go along and visit, alongside two pupils from Bowburn Junior School. The Treetops ward were very grateful for the generosity of Tesco, and we thank them for their help.  Many thanks to the ambulance service, and Robin Raymond for his continued support.

African Children’s Choir Visit 2017

25th April 2017 By susanfirth

We were delighted to welcome our friends from the 46th African Children’s Choir. After singing with them at the Bethany Christian Centre, it was great to get to know them better when they came to join us for an afternoon in school. We know that this link has created a lasting friendship, and we look forward to writing to them on their return to Uganda.
