Year 2 have an exciting opportunity this term to reconnect with nature after months of being forced to stay indoors. An environmental project called ‘My School My Planet’ and supported by Oases, is being carried out over 10 weeks in and around our school. The project aims to help children process the difficult year they have faced and to reduce anxieties about being back in the world.
As part of the project the children have become very familiar with the trees, plants and wildlife in our own school grounds including in the forest school area. We also went further afield with a walk to Rainton Meadows nature reserve to see the wildlife on our doorstep.
To complete the project, the children have decided to focus on biodiversity and create areas in school to make our grounds more attractive to wildlife.
